Chiang Mai: large digital nomad and retirement community. Phuket: substantial retiree and business community. Pattaya: historically the largest per-capita Australian presence in Thailand. Hua Hin: quieter retirement community.

Within each city, Australians cluster in specific neighbourhoods (Sukhumvit in Bangkok, Nimman in Chiang Mai, Rawai/Bangtao in Phuket, etc.) — finding your local area's community is typically the fastest path to connection.

austchamthailand.com — Bangkok-based. The formal business community organisation. Monthly networking events, business lunches, committee meetings. Relevant for business owners and professionals.

rbsc.org — one of Bangkok's oldest sporting and social clubs. Golf, tennis, cricket. Australian members (and members of other nationalities) use it as a social hub.

Thai cricket has an active community in Bangkok. Australians are disproportionately represented. Bangkok Patana cricket club and other clubs run regular matches. Search "cricket Bangkok" for current fixtures.

Every city in Thailand has expat golf groups. In Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Hua Hin, there are weekly organised rounds (often via Facebook or WhatsApp groups) where new arrivals are welcome. Ask at any golf club — you'll find a group within a week.

ANZAC Day is observed by the Australian expat community across Thailand every 25 April. Events: Bangkok: Dawn Service at the Australian Embassy Bangkok, followed by a march and memorial service. RSL Thailand (Royal Sub Branch Thailand) organises the ceremony. Attendance is large — 400–600 people. Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya: community ANZAC events organised locally, sometimes at Australian-owned venues.

Most Australians who are actively looking (attending one or two events, joining Facebook groups) find a comfortable social network within 4–6 weeks of arrival. Thailand's expat communities are not closed — new arrivals are welcomed because the cycle of people arriving and departing is constant.

The most common mistake: staying home and expecting the community to come to you. Go to the events — even if you feel like an outsider initially.
